For a thicker soup, remove a cup or so of the cooked beans. Pour in remaining 6 cups of water, or enough to cover the beans.Cool on Low until beans are tender, about 8 hours. It isnt totally uncommon to have diarrhea for up to several months after getting Salmonella. It also lasts a bit long in both stages of catching E. coli (anywhere from 34 days) and suffering through the symptoms (5-7 days).
